AIR REQUIREMENTS

Employers have a duty of care to supply a minimum quantity of “clean and purified air”. This is the basis of the legislation set out in the Health and Safety at Work act, 1974. This applies to the entire workspace, but where there is a specific clinical requirement, other codes of practice also apply.

Dirty ductwork can lead to efficiency issues since dirt will inevitably block filters, reducing their useful life and increasing resistance. This can reduce the volume of air supplied by the system and put strain on the fan and motor.

Ductwork may be filtered, but no filter is absolute. Even HEPA filters will allow passage of some particles. Further, the process of changing filters can result in transfer of dirt and particulates to the clean side of the system. Ductwork is not typically cleaned from new and pre-cleaning of installations is a relatively new requirement.

VENTILATION HYGIENE SERVICES

Correct air quality is a key in maximising productivity of your workforce. Our air quality team perform Air quality monitoring, LEV testing, ventilation inspection and cleaning works.

  • Poorly maintained ducted air supply and extraction can result in:
      • Reduced air flow and plant life due to the build up of contamination
      • Build up of dust leading to failure of sensitive equipment
      • Increase in cleaning and redecoration costs due to dust staining
      • Loss of efficiency with associated increases in running costs
      • The presence of fungal and microbiological contamination which can result in increased absenteeism and a reduction in well being within the building

Aquatech’s air hygiene team are qualified to all relevant standards and assist our clients in preventing the above by performing:

  • Indoor Air Quality monitoring – trend monitoring for the build up of gases, fungal and microbiological activity
  • Ductwork cleaning – to remove accumulated contaminants that can affect the efficiency of the system and well being of building users
  • Kitchen extract cleaning – routine cleaning of grease extracts to ensure correct operation and to minimise fire risk
  • Local Exhaust Ventilation monitoring – to ensure LEV are operating at the desired level
  • Fire damper testing
